Ladle Treatment Station

Ladle Treatment Stations allow the treatment of steel in order to bring it into the required chemical composition prior to transfer for casting.  These stations are generally operated without installing large scale equipment and hence have low cost and simple operation.

The Ladle Treatment Station can be installed with a full ferro-alloy system, wire feed machines and inert gas stirring as required depending upon the treatment.  The main functions included for a ladle treatment station include:

  • deoxidation by the addition of aluminium or microalloys
  • adjustment of chemical composition by wire feeding and alloy additions
  • homogenisation of liquid steel by bottom purging or lance stirring
  • desulphurisation by addition of synthetic slag or by powder blowing
  • addition of cooling agents for temperature adjustment
  • serving as a liquid storage buffer prior to casting
