Hot Metal Desulphurisation (Deep Injection)

The desulphurisation of liquid iron is effected by deep powder injection using a refractory coated lance.  Various powders can be injected on their own (mono-injection), or in combination (co-injection).  These powders include CaO, CaC2, Mg, Mg/CaO, Mg/CaC2, or a mixture of CaO/CaF2. The sulphur bearing slag is then removed using an integrated or separate slag skimming process.  The desulphurising and slag removal processes are both connected to a dedusting system.

Advantages:

  • Low cost reagents.
  • Sulphur levels down to 10 ppm S.
  • Reasonable investment cost.
  • Efficient deslagging in shortest possible time.
  • Low iron losses.
