Automatic Gas Coupling

SMS Mevac has developed and installed its own designs for various types of automatic gas coupling units, to enable the source of stirring gas to be automatically connected to the ladle once the ladle has been located on a stand or transfer car.

The units can be custom built to suit the individual customer's requirements.

There are two basic types, namely a spring loaded design where the two halves of the coupler are held together by compressed spring tension, or an actuated design where the contact between the two halves of the coupler is maintained by an actuator.

In both cases, one half of the coupler is connected to the ladle, and the other half to the stand or car which supports the ladle during treatment. The design of the coupler allows considerable variation in the position of the ladle relative to the stand or car.
